Newly elected APA President Jon Griffin recently attended a reception at the house of Commons on behalf of the APA.  It was hosted by Richard Benyon MP and Huw Irranca-Davies MP and delegates from a number of groups attended.  These included representatives from the FSA, DEFRA, DoH, The National Farmers Union, The Anaphylaxis Society, The UK Pig Breeders Association and The Institute of Trading Standards to name but a few.

Speeches were given by Tim Bennett who is the Chair of FSA board and Jane Ellison MP who is the Under Secretary of State for Public Health.  It was an opportunity for all parties involved in food standards to engage and make connections.

On being elected APA President at the APA Conference in London last month, Jon commented “I am delighted to be representing the APA in the capacity as President.  Having worked in the Public Analyst profession now for over 25 years it is a privilege to serve in a lead role and I hope that I can give the position the time and effort it deserves.  My thanks go to Liz Moran, our now immediate Past President, for the hard work and professionalism she has given over the last three years as President and I look forward to continuing her good work.  I want to be able to promote the Association and the importance of the work carried by the laboratories whenever possible and will strive to do this”
